Schenley Gardens Senior Living Community offers 164 units for personal care and memory care in Oakland
Pittsburgh, PA – Vincentian has acquired Schenley Gardens, a personal care senior community located on Bigelow Boulevard at the gateway to Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood. Schenley Gardens offers a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments.
“Vincentian has been serving Pittsburghers for nearly 100 years, and we’re excited to welcome Schenley Gardens into our family of senior communities,” said Vincentian President & CEO Nick Vizzoca. “We look forward to continuing to get to know the residents and staff at Schenley Gardens and working hand-in-hand with them in the coming months.”
Schenley Gardens becomes Vincentian’s third personal care home in Allegheny County and joins a healthcare system that serves more than 2,000 seniors annually. The acquisition comes during the same week that Vincentian officially cut the ribbon on Terrace Place at Vincentian, a 91-unit independent living 55+ community in McCandless.
“Healthcare organizations must focus on providing the right care, at the right time, in the right setting,” Vizzoca said. “For Vincentian, the acquisition of Schenley Gardens does just that, ensuring that many of the seniors who helped build this city will have access to compassionate, locally-operated and mission-driven care in their neighborhood.”
In the next year, Vincentian will invest more than $1 million in capital improvements at Schenley Gardens, while also providing professional development, training, and career advancement opportunities for current employees. Schenley Gardens employs approximately 80 people, but that number will grow as Vincentian welcomes new residents to the community.
Vizzoca noted Schenley Gardens’ proximity to the educational and medical center of our region and said Vincentian is excited to extend existing partnerships with organizations in the Oakland neighborhood. Schenley Gardens is also less than two miles from Vincentian de Marillac, one of Vincentian’s long-term care senior communities, enhancing Vincentian’s continuum of care in the area.
Vincentian is a not-for-profit health care and human services organization that offers a continuum of care for more than 2,000 seniors per year, including independent living, personal care, memory care, short-term rehabilitation, and skilled nursing. Vincentian coordinates three senior care communities in the Greater Pittsburgh area, plus two child care centers, two independent living communities, and a charitable foundation. The system was founded in the Catholic tradition in 1924 and is sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
